The Fund has engaged Aegis Capital Partners LLP as Film Adviser and is able to draw on the members' extensive experience in film finance, structured investments, corporate finance, banking, capital markets and taxation. The Film Adviser intends to leverage the members' unique relationships with producers, sales agents and collection agencies to source and structure opportunities for the Fund.
The Film Adviser is comprised of key personnel of Prescience Film Finance Ltd, two former Man Financial / MF Global executives and key personnel from the Chancery Group. Biographies are below.
Prescience's Managing Director Tim Smith has worked in the marketing, financing and production of filmed entertainment since the earliest days of video at companies as varied as Twentieth Century Fox and Random Harvest.
For well over a decade Tim owned and ran Foresight, one of the most successful entertainment agencies in Europe during the 1990s.
At Foresight he oversaw the European campaigns for such household-name films as Aladdin, The Nightmare Before Christmas, The Santa Clause, Pocahontas, Toy Story, 101 Dalmations, Hercules, Mulan and A Bug's Life. After selling Foresight to South Africa's Primedia group in the early 2000s, Tim worked as an independent producer and with Random Harvest before establishing Prescience in 2005.
James started his career at City stockbroker Teather & Greenwood before moving to Smith & Williamson Investment Management in December 2004. James has raised, structured and managed funds for over 30 productions including, Ladies in Lavender, Green Street and Irresistible. In addition, James has raised funds for a number of AIM, private equity, EIS and VCT transactions in a variety of industry sectors including retail, leisure, media, insurance and technology.
Andrew is a serial entrepreneur with over 30 years experience of running and investing in successful businesses across various sectors that include retail, leisure, property, bloodstock and technology. During this time he has accumulated extensive experience of corporate transactions including turnaround situations, pre-IPO funding, acquisitions, disposals, restructuring and refinancing and he was named Entrepreneur of the Year at the National PLC awards in 1992. He is best known as the Chairman of Betterware, one of the largest direct sellers of housewares in the UK. After acquiring the business in the early eighties he built the company up culminating in a sale to Natwest Equity Partners for £127m in 1998
Colin started in banking and finance in 1968 with Barclays bank. His banking career, primarily in the Treasury and Trading area has included working at HSBC, First Chicago, where he became chief forex trader and a ten year career at The National Commercial Bank in Saudi Arabia where he had management roles in Bahrain, New York and London until being head-hunted by the then E.D.& F Man which eventually floated as the Man Group in 1994. During his 20 year career at Man, Colin had an executive role in their Finance department, was the chair of the asset and liability committee, and served as a director on several of the subsidiary boards up until the successful demerger of the brokerage business on the NYSE in 2007. Colin retired from the Man Group/MF Global in May of 2008.
Peter is a taxation professional whose career has spanned 38 years, during which he worked with HM Revenue & Customs, KPMG and Rawlinson & Hunter. Peter is the founding and senior partner of the Chancery Group of businesses, which initially formed in 1997. The Chancery Group comprise a specialist taxation division whose primary aim is wealth creation through tax mitigation, together with chartered accountancy, financial planning, film and media, property and publishing businesses.
Peter's expertise ranges across all taxes, incorporating personal, corporate, inheritance tax, investments, trusts, offshore structuring, mergers and acquisitions and corporate finance. Peter also has expertise in areas such as structured investments in film, media, property, private equity and alternative investments.
